Start listening to your back. Always consider pain as a warning, a way for your body to tell you that whatever it is you are presently doing is about to or is already causing damage. When whatever it is that you are trying to do start to hurt, the best approach is to not try and push through the discomfort. Chances are, you are only doing your body more harm than good in the long run.
Take the time to warm up before you will do any physical activity or exercise. This allows your body enough chance to adjust to the activity that you are about to do. Whether it is gardening, DIY, or sports a good warm-up is the best preparation for the action and is effective at preventing injuries.
Cool down too. Stretching and cooling down after a physical activity or an exercise is as crucial as warming up. When doing your stretches, avoid bouncing them up and try to be as gentle as possible. They need to be done without any pain or discomfort.
Make exercise a regular activity. The problem with modern living is that people tend to get way too preoccupied with their busy lifestyles that they barely have time to squeeze in some physical activity. Exercises are crucial because they help not only in developing one’s strength but also his mobility. Swimming, cycling, and brisk walking are all excellent choices of exercise that do not really require much. Find an activity that you know is most suitable for you and one that you will actually enjoy doing so as to not make it feel like a chore.
Try to move as often as you can. Whether you are at work, in the car, or at home, always remember that sitting for too long can cause your muscles to weaken and your discs to load. Try to get up and move about even if it is only just for a few minutes. The human body is designed to move. This is why slouching for long periods is never ideal.
When sleeping, find a comfortable position. The least stressful is usually on your side while in the foetal position. You put too much stress on your neck and back when you sleep on your front and this can spell trouble. Be sure to use the right pillow with the right height too and make sure that it will support your neck.
